Please join us in congratulating our very own, Claire Ince. Her feature screenplay, Night Catch, was one of only 12 projects selected for this year's Meryl Streep Writers Lab (read full story here)
We could not be happier for you, Claire! Through all the life challenges, you kept showing up and now this is your reward. The Monday night gang is looking forward to living vicariously through what is sure to be an incredible and well deserved experience. :)
For those of you telling yourselves you would be writing but you just don't have the time, here's a little backstory in Claire's own words...
I've been writing for a while, but before I found Holly and the LTP tribe, I was very unkind to myself. I would beat myself up a lot about how long it took me to write scripts, how muddy or flat a character I wrote was, and how badly I'd structured a thing. Everything was from a place of negativity. But I've begun to transform this little by little. Thanks to the LTP program, I'm finding a way to work writing into a super-busy work and parenting life. I've become less resentful, too, of not having the writing life of folks who can retreat into a beautiful study and write for three hours undisturbed and then take long walks in nature. And I've found a way to write that doesn't put me under the paralyzing pressure of this draft must be perfect. Instead, I find myself beset by so many ideas. So many things I want to write. But to get to those things, I must finish the script I am working on. So in the spirit of "don't get it right, get it written", I entered the Writers Lab contest to give myself a deadline. I needed one. I had hoped the rewrite would take me three months....instead it took two years. And I guess that's what I'm most proud of, that I stuck with it-- through running a business and having a family and enduring a 2022 where my mom was so, so sick, and through doubt (the kind of doubt that comes with writing without major success past a certain age). I did what Holly said. I carved out slivers of time and, little by little, finished the draft and have a way better handle on the story I'm trying to tell. Now I get some time to fully immerse myself in the script in November. So, a big thanks to the Monday night LTPers, Pam (aka Eli), Nicole, Noelle, and Stannie. Your feedback, your work, your enthusiasm, and your support have all been invaluable to me. Being a part of this community with each of you has been an incredible experience. And to Holly, you've got a special kind of magic. You are a goddamn gift we are lucky to have in our lives. With love and thanks, Claire
Congratulations Claire!!! That's a Great Accomplishment!!!
